Overview
Today we
find that everything is being converted into digital form. It is, therefore,
necessary for electrical, computer and electronics engineers to know both the
fundamentals and advanced aspects of digital circuits. Digital circuits are
mostly the out come of the combination of various kinds of electrical gates
(also called the logic gates).
This book,
Fundamentals of Digital Logic with VHDL design, teaches the basic design
techniques for logic circuits. Synthesis of circuits and their implementation
in real chip are explained. Larger circuits are explained later. Although any
CAD system can be applied to real chip design but the book teaches about VHDL
(Altera’s Quartus II CAD). A balance is kept between basic concepts and
practical work. Basic concepts are introduced by worked examples and then more
complicated examples are provided.
A great
emphasis is also given to Programmable Logic Devices (PLDs) because they are suitable for all types of digital circuit
design and circuits are implemented in PLDs by user-end programming.
